Executive Team

David J. Means | President

David entered the financial services field in 1989 as an intern with Northwestern Mutual, where he attained local as well as national recognition for his performance. He graduated in 1991 from Illinois State University, going on to become a full-time associate with Northwestern Mutual. Over the next 3-years, David once again received recognition for his outstanding performance. From there, in 1994 David founded what went on to become Legacy Financial Group, an organization based in Kankakee, Illinois, providing financial services to the South Chicagoland area. Over the next 10-years, David, once again, won both local and national recognition for the growth of his organization.

On January 2nd of 2004, David acquired the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company‘s (MassMutual) agency for the state of Minnesota. Renamed the Minneapolis Financial Group, the organization was founded locally in 1887 and has over 33,500 clients1 throughout the Upper Midwest, servicing over $2.5 billion in Client policy and account values2 with Life Insurance in force of over $4.2 billion3 (as of 12/31/2012).

In addition to the Minneapolis Financial Group, David is also the founder and co-owner of Eastern Illini Benefits Group*, which provides employee benefit programs for businesses throughout Central Illinois as well as MFG Mortgage Services, LLC*, which is a commercial mortgage brokerage firm. David also was the founder of ProCare Medical Staffing*, a 140 employee nurse registry providing nursing services to hospitals and nursing homes throughout the greater Chicagoland area. Additionally, David was a member of the founding group which started First Trust Bank of Illinois.

David has also committed a large amount of his time to civic organizations. He has had leadership roles on numerous non-profit boards, including Treasurer and Chairman of the Planned Giving committee for the St. Mary‘s Hospital Foundation; Board member of the Kankakee Development Corporation; Vice Chair and Chairman of the Nominating and Executive Committees of the Kankakee Valley YMCA; President and Chairman of the Executive and Membership Committees of the Kankakee Rotary Club; and a former member of Chicago Estate Planning Council.

David currently serves as a Board Member and Finance Chair for Entrepreneur‘s Organization and is a Member of the Twin Cities Angels.

David L. Austin II | Managing Partner

 

David was born and raised in Collinsville, a small town in Southern Illinois; he reached for the skies graduating from Southern Illinois University with degrees in Aviation Management and Business Administration. David and his staff specialize in providing financial service professionals the tools to grow their practice addressing the needs of business owners and individuals with life insurance, annuities and various investment products. David has over 19 years of experience in the insurance industry and is active in industry and community associations. He is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, is a past board member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and has served on the MassMutual Brokerage Director Advisory Committee for multiple terms. David has achieved numerous distinctions, including MassMutual Management Council, and has participated in leading the Minneapolis agency to achieve multiple MassMutual Chairman’s Trophy Awards.

David, his wife Stephanie and son Richard enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors. David is an aviation enthusiast and can be regularly found with his son at the local airport continuing the family tradition that started long ago when he and his father received their pilot licenses together.


 

Josh Bach | Vice President

Josh was born and raised in Wahpeton, ND until he was 14 and his family moved to Fergus Falls, MN where he attended high school. After high school, Josh attended college in Moorhead, MN, graduating in 2001.

He entered the financial services industry directly out of college taking a position as a Financial Representative with Northwestern Mutual. Josh remained at Northwestern for over ten years. While there, he achieved many successes including being named Representative of the Year in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

In May of 2012, Josh and Ryan Botner decided to establish the Red River Financial Group. In November of 2012, their sister office Missouri River Financial Group, was established. Currently the two groups have 15 advisors across the state of North Dakota.

Josh is married to Beth and has four children - Taylor, Preston, Noah, and Ava.

Josh sits in the Board of Directors for the Spartan Youth Basketball Association in North Fargo.


Ryan Botner | Vice President

Ryan grew up in small town Litchville, North Dakota. He attended Valley City State University where he earned a degree in Technology Education. While at school, Ryan was a Viking Ambassador and a member of the VCSU Football team.

Ryan is one of the founding partners with Red River Financial Group, our office in Fargo, ND, and is the President of Physicians National Financial. He has 8 years in the financial services industry. Red River Financial Group was established by assembling a team of motivated, high-activity driven Financial Professionals, and empowering them with the tools, resources, and most importantly, the independence to pursue the strategies they know best. Through a process of fact-finding and relationship building, Ryan offers a broad range of experience to his clients.

Whether it’s institutional investing, or holistic financial services for small business owners and professionals, his mission is the same: to provide the best, personalized service, and client-focused experience available. This is what has set him apart in the Fargo community. Ryan is driven to effectively advise his clients on the financial matters that they face throughout their lives.
Ryan is married to his wife Amanda, and they have one son named Will. In the community, Ryan is involved in Kiwanis and Business Networking International.

He holds his series 6 and 63 registrations as well as Life and Health Insurance licenses.


Steve Rowan | Vice President

Steve joined Minneapolis Financial Group in April of 2009 as Vice President and Sales Manager. He had previously been running a financial planning practice for the past 6 years, as well as mentoring and managing a team of advisors at Ameriprise Financial.

Steve qualified for Sales Manager Summit and Management Council in 2010, 2011, and 2012. He also serves as a member of the Sales Manager Advisory board. Steve qualified to be a MFG Partner in 2010, 2011, and 2012 with his personal practice and was named Advisor of the Year for 2012. Steve is also the Investment and Annuity Specialist for the firm, teaching and assisting advisors on the vast array of investment platforms and focusing on retirement income.

Steve grew up in Lakeville, MN and went on to attend Concordia University in Saint Paul, MN where he attained his BBA in Finance and Marketing Management, and met his future wife. He now resides in Gem Lake with his wife Natalie, daughters Kiera and Sydney, and their dog Ruby. In his spare time, Steve enjoys going to the cabin, fishing, golfing, boating and relaxing at home.

Steve is a registered representative of MML Investors Services, LLC, and holds a FINRA General Securities Representative - (Series 7), Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts, and Uniform Combined State Law Examination (Series 66) registrations.


Andrew W. Todd | Vice President

Andrew grew up in Visalia, California and moved to Shakopee, MN in 1996. He attended St. Cloud State University where he earned a degree in Finance. While at school, Andrew acted as the Husky Fund President as well as the Vice President of the St. Cloud State Investment Club, and was a member of the SCSU baseball team.

Andrew started with the Minneapolis Financial Group, a general agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), as an intern in 2005 and since has excelled, qualifying for the MassMutual Rising Leader award as well as attaining the MassMutual Leaders level each year he has been an advisor. Andrew earned the Minneapolis Financial Group New Advisor of the Year award in 2006, the New Advisor of the Year for years 2-4 in 2007, 2008, and 2009, the Advisor of the Year in 2008 and 2010, as well as qualified to be an MFG Partner in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Additionally in 2008, he became a member of the MDRT and has continued since. Not only does Andrew help his clients achieve their financial goals, but he has also taken up leadership in the firm as a Managing Associate and now Sales Manager, helping to guide and tutor new advisors in their practice.

Andrew is currently the firm representative of, and is the youngest member to act as a member on, the MassMutual Agents Association (AAX). He is also the Long Term Care Specialist for the firm, teaching and assisting advisors on MassMutual‘s LTC products and services. Additionally, Andrew is an active member in the NAIFA (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors) Young Advisors Committee.

Andrew has a passion for baseball as well as other sports and serves as a council member for the Metro Youth Baseball Association. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys traveling, watching and playing sports, especially golf, hockey, softball, and baseball, and spending time with friends and family.
